Light Smoke, Gray: 10 pcs Ghana Krobo Saucer Glass Beads, 10 x 2.5mm / Sand Casted Glass Donut Beads, African Rondelle Spacer Beads, Glass Saucers, Spacers
Be aware, these look just like candied jelly donuts, but they’re made of glass. How beautiful are they? These glass beads are traditional glass beads from Ghana and are often referred to as Krobo Beads. These glass beads are made from recycled glass bottles and other glass items found and brought to the area they call Kroboland. The glass bottles and other glass items are sorted, washed and dried and then broken into small fragments for the bead-making commence.
The glass is pounded with a metal mortar and pestle and sieved to get very fine powder in order to make the glass beads. I first thought the colors were from the recycled glass itself, which I believe some are, but my supplier also told me that sometimes they use ceramic powder dye to add different colors to the glass before shaping them into beads.
Please note, each bead is unique and 100% handmade. Zoom in the pictures for close-ups and further details.
